Sunday Secret - get real

Perhaps this secret stood out for me this week because I just read Lynda Barry's My Perfect Life yesterday. I was transported to another time...a time I remember well since I grappled with being a teenager during the 70s. I loved the parts of the comic/graphic novel when Maybonne made reference to giving someone "some reality"-- in other words, laying some truth on them. This secret seems to exemplify a difference between then and now.

What's gained from a deception like this? What's lost? Does anyone even say "get real" anymore?

Sunday Secret - comfortably numb

I know psychological evaluation is part of the screening for persons applying to medical school, but I wonder if counseling is offered once medical students are involved in their studies and are about ready to treat people on their own. BTW - my primary care doc earned his MD from Loma Linda. So did a high school friend. Maybe that's a reason this particular secret caught my attention this week.

Sunday Secret - let go

So true. Maybe you don't have to stay home necessarily, but letting go of rigid ideas about what constitutes 'a holiday' is as Martha says, "a good thing."

Sunday Secret

This postcard really spoke to me. My mother-in-law passed on January 26 and during her funeral and at gatherings after the funeral, I was struck by how deeply her death affected our daughter and other grandchildren. I also remember the unique loss I felt when my grandmothers passed away. I still try to plant fall bulbs on my grandma's birthday each October. The relationship between grandmothers and grandchildren is a special one.

true that

From today's Post Secret.

True in that acquiring things doesn't seem to create happiness --
only a need to declutter in the future.

The soul mate thing is a bit more complicated.
What is a soul mate anyway?
A rescuer?
Does it have to be human?
Is the rule one soul mate per life?

Do soul mates always recognize each other?
