Saturday Snapshot - heart rock cafe

Alabama Hills on the east side of the Sierra Nevada.
I collect and provide sanctuary for heart-shaped rocks but was thrilled to spot this other type of heart-shaped rock during our recent road trip to Death Valley National Park.

Don't forget to look out into the night sky tonight for a meteor shower.

Sunday Stills - reflections

Furnace Creek Inn, Death Valley National Park [click on image to enlarge]
Couldn't get the song "Midnight at the Oasis" off my mind. Except, I was singing, "mid-day at the oasis."

backyard violet

A single blossom in a clump of violets that has bloomed continuously since October.

I didn't think it would ever happen but I seem to have lost some of my interest in reading and in bookstores. This means I'll probably utilize this space mainly as a place to post photos.

taupe sunset

The sky and sunsets have been spectacular lately. Took this shot with my iPhone while near the end of a bike ride.

Sunday Stills - blue

I'm participating in Sunday Stills for the first time. Today's challenge is to photograph the color blue. Easy-peasy you think....but you can't use the sky and you can't use a photo from your archive.

Check out what the rest of the gang has come up with here.

in remembrance

My mother in law passed away recently and I made this video from family photos in tribute to her long, full life.

take a little trip

Spent the day in San Francisco.
I've never seen so many people here at once.
Columbus Day events, Fleet Week, the Raiders, the 49ers, Giants and who knows what else was going on.
Can't beat a day like today though.
Who can blame anyone for wanting to be here.

fall falling

And every year there is a brief, startling moment
When we pause in the middle of a long walk home and
Suddenly feel something invisible and weightless
Touching our shoulders, sweeping down from the air:
It is the autumn wind pressing against our bodies;
It is the changing light of fall falling on us.

-- Edward Hirsch, from his poem "Fall"

shades of blue

Spent the afternoon at one of my favorite places --
Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe (a Nevada State Park).
I love the water stars in this photo.

Welcome
