the part I hate

I leave for Washington very early Saturday morning. This means I'm up against the part of travelling I hate -- packing. I get really anxious about it and usually this leads to procrastination. This makes my husband anxious too. So, this time around, I'm going to try approach this differently and start packing tonight.

Anyone else feel this way? If so, what have you found that helps?

I find a lot of resistance inside of myself to a lot of things though the common denominator is me. So when I feel the resistance coming on, sometimes I force myself to function even though I'm really uncomfortable with forcing myself. But yeah, I procrastinate with paying bills, checking my bank account, packing for trips - though I pack so light, maybe that's a bit easier for me than checking my balance.

As a fellow Pisces, I'd tell John to take a Xanax. I am most comfortable with all the blanks filled in/information is power. Packing is a blank that needs to be filled in; he can help by flinging all your clothes inside a suitcase and saying "you're packed!" possibly.

I have to admit (sheepishly) that John does help me. Not with the toiletries but with the actual placement of the clothes I've rounded up into the suitcase. Why? I think because it's like loading the dishwasher, he just knows the perfect way to do it. Too bad he doesn't think he knows the perfect way to unload the dishwasher. Or clean toilets, but I digress. He helps because it's also to get it done/move things along as he's feeling frantic. He likes to be at the airport hours before the flight. Let's just say, I don't think that's neccessary. And, yes, this has led to some "marriage encounters." But we usually make up by the time we're on the plane. Too many grumpy rides to the airport though.

My weirdness about packing has gotten worse over time and I feel badly about how it makes him feel. That's the main reason I want to try to change. Thanks for the tip.

I hate packing and a last minute packer so I'm not sure I can help you with this since it sounds like we have the same problem!
